VeriSign was recently hacked for a lot of vital information, ironically they are in charge of security for a large chunk of websites. The company is mainly in charge of the security for .Com’s, .NET’s and .GOV. Some of the most important sites in the country. Lets hope they figure out how to manage these hackers soon or people will loose faith in the company’s ability to keep their websites safe. The company claims that the hackers did not reach the main servers, where the company keeps the protocol addressees. Verisign plans to apply for 12 generic top-level domains with the intention to sell the names on their domain name registry. The company will most likely be buying domains that are close competitors to .com, but many say that Verisign most likely won’ t make any money off the new gTLD’s. The US military is looking to recruit over 10,000 cyber warriors to work as a cyber defense for the government. The recruits aren’t going to be your average cookie cutter military types, but they just have to be at the top of their field. What is controversial about this is whether it should be the military’s responsibility or another branch of government. The main purpose is to fend off cyber attacks and make sure that valuable government information isn’t released to unwanted hands. Nominet, has proposed that a new code of conduct should ban unprofessional behavior. If members are caught being rude to the Nominet Staff or conduct cyber scamming the company would strip members of their privileges. This new code of conduct was not in response to any type of behavior. Nominet thinks the code will work because they have the possibility to publish membership suspensions if they choose. Verisign says that since they passed 100 million registrations mark a strong growth has occurred in the last term in 2011. There are now 113.8 million registrations. .COM and .NET dominated 7.9 million registrations in the last quarter. There are about 22,000 registrations a day in 2012. Telephone scams have been plaguing domain name registrants. An anonymous caller would contact a client and claim they are from a third party registrar warning the client that they would sell their domain name unless they paid them a certain sum of money. Unsolicited calls and emails that you may have received please contact your registrar immediately, you maybe a victim of a domain scam. If you are unaware of who your registrar is you may search on http://www.nominet.org.uk. in the WHOIS search and it will guide you to that information. The popularity of .SE domains has risen significantly in 2011 jumping from 4,299 registrations early in the year to 171,650 registrations by December. This rise can be accounted for by the policies of DNSSEC and many registrars who have made a long term strategy of increased security a priority for the Swedish Internet. .Bayern, the new gTLD for the German Bavarian State Government, was acquired by the Directors of Top Level Domain Holdings Limited (AIM:TLDH.L). The companies business plan is to resale the gTLD.
