The US military is looking to recruit over 10,000 cyber warriors to work as a cyber defense for the government. The recruits aren’t going to be your average cookie cutter military types, but they just have to be at the top of their field. What is controversial about this is whether it should be the military’s responsibility or another branch of government. The main purpose is to fend off cyber attacks and make sure that valuable government information isn’t released to unwanted hands. Information can be just as valuable as protecting other aspects of the country.

Nominet, has proposed that a new code of conduct should ban unprofessional behavior. If members are caught being rude to the Nominet Staff or conduct cyber scamming the company would strip members of their privileges. This new code of conduct was not in response to any type of behavior. Nominet thinks the code will work because they have the possibility to publish membership suspensions if they choose.

The popularity of .SE domains has risen significantly in 2011 jumping from 4,299 registrations early in the year to 171,650 registrations by December. This rise can be accounted for by the policies of DNSSEC and many registrars who have made a long term strategy of increased security a priority for the Swedish Internet. DNSSEC security was first implemented in Sweden, and it has a developed a very positive review in the internet community. To read further on this topic click here.

25 registrations have been made during the first week that the new gTLD program is opening according to ICANN. This number doesn’t necessarily represent the number of applicants, since applicants can apply for 50 registrations, but the organization does expect a significant number more. Information is limited as ICANN plans to release final numbers after the three month registration period. Two weeks after the registration period ends ICANN will publish a list of domains obtained by which companies.
