April 19th, 2012

ICANN says that they plan on notifying all applicants whether they were affected by the security breach. The company still plans on having the big reveal day on April 30th, but who knows if they will have this mess straightened out. ICANN states,”An intensive review has produced no evidence that any data beyond the file names and user names could be accessed by other users. We are currently reviewing the data to confirm which applicants were affected. As soon as the data is confirmed, we will inform all applicants whether they were affected.” To read further on this topic click here.

Liberalized .pt registrations!

April 18th, 2012

We are glad to confirm that .pt registrations will be liberalized at 05-01-2012.

However after the liberalization, there are some rules that will persist. For example, the domain name still can’t correspond to names that lead to error or confusion over their ownership (namely by coinciding with well-known or prestigious brands that belong to someone else) or to a geographical name.

101Domain is NOW ACCEPTING pre-registrations for liberalized domains, no extra charge.  You can submit your requests to sales@101domain.com.

TAS Glitch

April 17th, 2012

The recent glitch in the TAS system, which is the application program for the new gTLD program, made it not possible for other users to be able to view competitors data. ICANN’s goal remains to see who was affected by the glitch in the system and reopen the application to those users that were affected and give them the fair chance to fix their applications. A intensive review showed that the glitch had no corruption or loss of data. To read further on this topic click here.

ICANN making Strides

April 16th, 2012

ICANN although having a major glitches in the in the TLD application system is facing some praise and respect for the results of a meeting in April. The company is no longer facing frantic changes and amendment policies for the new program. The “Resolution on defensive application for TLD’s” was a responsive resolution that helped deal with the problems that companies were defensively applying to the program to not loose their trade marks. ICANN says that cybersquatting is never legal so companies should be aware of that there were existing defenses in the system to prevent that. To read further click here.

Does ICANN have Authority?

April 15th, 2012

A small New York Company, Name.Space,  says that ICANN does not have control over 482 top-level domain strings and the company claims that cannot be awarded to others. It claims that the company has been operating a root DNS system that has been functional since 1996. The CEO of Name.Space has notified ICANN that they cannot use these domain names and that these names predate ICANN and they do not have authority to sell them to third parties. It is a waste of time accor To read further on this topic click here.

ICANN has Trouble

April 14th, 2012

The new gTLD program is serving to have a lot more problems for ICANN that successes. The US shows warning signs for the company when it didn’t renew but temporarily extended ICANN’s contract, although the industry was expecting a renewal. The very foundation of the new gTLD program seems to be unstable now, even though this is the most radical move the organization has ever done. ICANN really needs to have the contract renew in order to have the full authority to bring out the new gTLD program. To read further click here.

Digital Archery

April 11th, 2012

ICANN has approved a system that will determine which applications have the highest priority. The so called digital archery method has been approved at a special board meeting that took place at the ICANN Costa Rica Conference. Each registrant must select a future time “target” and the groups of applicants will then be based off of time and then put into groups of 500. ICANN plans on having between 1000 to 1500 applications. The ability to “hit” the target will determine whether your application will be handles first second or third in the batches. This method has given ICANN harsh criticism and companies feel that this system is not fair. However, this seems the most anonymous and unbiased. To read further click here.

Who Bought?

April 10th, 2012

ICANN’s deadline to apply for new domain names is ending tomorrow and major marketers have already stated that they would be purchasing domain name spaces. Spokeswomen from Google says that the company plans on keeping all the major trademarks and acquiring a handful of new ones. The new TLDs include Google.com and Youtube.com, but a new tool will be marking branded Youtube Channel destinations. For example www.101domain.Youtube. Interestingly enough, companies like Deloitte and Canon have applied for new GTDs but Social Media mogul Facebook has not. And according to Pepsi they are not taking part. The Bittersweet time will be tomorrow when the opportunity to buy early will end. To read further on this topic click here.
