Numerical Study on IPV4
The IGP released a study for the market of IPV4 blocks. This is the first study of it’s kind showing the numerical value. The RIR is running out of IPV4 numbers and hopes that a majority of individuals and companies transfer over to the new IPV6 system soon. Although a lot of companies from the early days of the Internet own IPV4 numbers that are unused and now are being encouraged to trade them. The trading of IPv4 numbers has grown from about 10,000 in 2010 to about 5 million in the first six months of 2012. The markets value at $10 a number is roughly worth 60 million dollars.
