How Does Brexit Affect Your Afnic Domain?
“Brexit” – the British exit – refers to the United Kingdom (UK) leaving the European Union (EU).
According to BBC, “The EU is an economic and political union involving 28 European countries. It allows free trade and free movement of people to live and work in whichever country they choose.” Now that Brexit is official, the registration policy for country-code domain extensions in the EU has changed. Specifically for registrants based in the UK who registered Afnic domains.

The New Afnic Domain Policy
Registrants residing in the UK who registered their domains before January 1, 2021, get to keep their domain names as long as they keep renewing. Moving forward from January 1, 2021, the UK no longer meets the registration eligibility criteria for .FR, .PM, .RE, .TF, .WF, .YT. domains. If you would like to register new domains, you will need to either provide a contact address in the EU or use our Trustee Service to satisfy the new requirements.
Trustee Service
Many country-code domains require a “local presence” or “proxy service”. These types of registrations require a company or individual to be located in a particular country or provide an administrative contact with a physical address in that specific country. The 101domain Trustee Service provides a local presence for over 50 countries and regions to satisfy the registration requirements. Trustee Service is an all-inclusive and hassle-free solution to help you register domains worldwide.
