During the ChatGPT boom, it took .ai, the country-code domain of the Caribbean island of Anguilla, about 17 months to add 210,000 names. The .si domain just added roughly 245,000 in six and a half weeks.
For more than three decades, .si belonged quietly to Slovenia. Then on September 22, the U.S. government said it would start calling artificial intelligence “super intelligence,” or SI, and followed with an executive order on September 29. Almost overnight, two letters best known as Slovenia’s country code became shorthand for superintelligence, and domain buyers moved faster than most marketing teams.
How fast are .si domains growing?
- The old normal: Slovenia’s registry typically saw about 1,000 new .si names a month, according to Foreign Policy citing registry operator ARNES. August came in at 3,515.
- The spike: September brought 46,066 new registrations, about 13 times August, per Domain Name Wire. TechRadar reports 4,115 new names on September 29, 11,331 on September 30 and 12,728 on October 1.
- The total: The .si namespace grew from about 190,000 names in early September to 435,724 on October 20, according to the live counter at Register.si. That is more than double in roughly six weeks.

Search interest followed. Ahrefs data shows U.S. searches for “.si domain” reached roughly 4,600 in September, more than 30 times the monthly average from January through May.
.si vs. .ai: The same land rush at a faster pace
Anguilla’s .ai grew from 143,737 names in July 2022 to 353,928 by the end of 2023, per Domain Incite. That works out to roughly 12,400 new names a month during the ChatGPT boom. On October 1, .si beat that monthly average in a single day.

Cost of entry is part of the reason. The .ai registry charges registrars $80 a year with a two-year minimum, per Domain Name Wire, while Register.si charges €10 a year, a little over $10, with no multi-year minimum. Lower cost of entry means faster adoption.

The .ai domain has kept growing, passing one million registrations in January 2026, according to Domain Incite. There’s no guarantee .si follows the same path. What .ai does show is that once a namespace catches on, short, memorable names stop being available at registration prices.

Who is registering .si domains
Demand is global. Hostinger’s data on its own .si sales showed India (25.5%) and the United States (25.2%) nearly even, with Morocco, the U.K. and Canada close behind, per TechRadar. Short names outnumbered obviously AI-themed names about 4.2 to 1, suggesting buyers are targeting the names that are scarce in every namespace.
Domain investors also moved early. Netcraft found that just over half of the .si names it tracked at one large registrar were listed for resale soon after registration. In the first half of 2026, only 2 of 35 public .si sales went to companies that used the name, per Domain Name Wire. One of them, Recursive, paid $20,000 for recursive.si.
What the .si boom means for brands
- Check your name now: Every .si registration is a name no one else can have. If your brand, product line or AI initiative is not on .si yet, someone may already be weighing it.
- Pair it with your primary domain: Search engines read .si as a Slovenia signal, so .si works best as a campaign, product or defensive name that points back to a brand’s main .com or .ai domain.
- Keep it in one portfolio: With 101domain, your .si names sit in the same account as the rest of your domains, with one renewal calendar, central DNS management and a team that handles country-code registrations every day.

- How are .si domain disputes handled?
Disputes over .si domains are handled through Register.si’s own dispute resolution process, not the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) used for .com and most generic domains. Registering a brand name early costs far less than recovering it later. - Who can register a .si domain?
Anyone can register a .si domain. There is no local presence requirement, though the registry does require accurate contact details. - Why does Slovenia use .si?
Slovenia uses .si because SI is its two-letter ISO country code.
Secure your .si name early
The .ai rush rewarded early registrants. The .si rush is moving more than 10 times faster than .ai‘s 2022–23 pace. 101domain has registered .si names for businesses since long before the superintelligence boom, and our team can secure one name or a protective set across .si, .ai and .com in a single portfolio.
