*record scratch*

Yup that’s you. You’re probably wondering how you ended up in this situation.

Let’s review…

Domain name renewal notices are sent to the primary email address on file 90 days, 60 days, 30 days, 15 days, 5 days, and 1 day prior to the domain expiration date, meaning you have successfully ignored 6 emails from us (don’t worry, we won’t take it personally). This is mistake #1. When we take a look in your 101domain account we see that you have auto-renew turned-off (mistake #2). You’re busy and human, so naturally, you made mistake #3 of leaving the crucial task of renewing your domain in your own hands.

So here we are…

Your domain name has expired and you are trying desperately to get it back. The last thing you want is for your domain names to fall into someone else’s hands- a competitor, a domain squatter, porn site, etc.

Recovering an expired domain name

We have the largest selection of domains available anywhere- if a domain extension exists, we offer it at 101domain! Each gTLD and ccTLD brand has different procedures for recovering expired domain names (that’s like 3,000+ procedures), so as not to bore you with each individual domain extension recovery process we’ll break down a few examples and if you have a question about your specific domain name drop us a message in Your Account.

New Domains

For most gTLDs (but not all) our policy is that new domains have a 40-day Grace Period in which a domain name can be renewed without incurring an additional fee. It’s important to note however that your domain will no longer resolve on the day it expires.  After the 40-day grace period, there is a 30-day Redemption Period in which you can renew your domain name for an additional $150 USD.

Country Code Domains

.MU domains for the country Mauritius are also trending as a domain hack for music and stand out in the ccTLD renewal policies with the steep redemption price of $2,000 USD (yikes- no one wants to pay that fee)!

.AT domains target an Austrian market. They allow you to choose whether you want to delete the domain shortly after the expiration date or transfer the domain back to .AT registry where they charge a redemption fee directly (which can be quite high).

.DE domains represent Germany and are the most registered country domain in existence. .DE domains automatically go back to the registry on the expiration date. For 30 days, the domain can be restored via your signature on a registry form, which we provide. Once the registry confirms the form has been filled out to their standards, the domain is transferred back to us at 101domain.

.SM domains for San Marino, along with a few other extensions must be requested to be deleted if you do not wish to renew. The deletion means, that if you pay late, the domain will have to be reregistered as a brand-new domain name. This will include providing all documents and signing all of the forms from the beginning.

If you forgot to renew your domain at another registrar, we can still help you restore the domain name and transfer the domain to 101domain.

If you happen to slip up, we’ll do everything we can do to bail you out and help recover your domains. There are ways to get your domain name back if they expire, but the best way to avoid headaches and fees in the future is to turn-on the auto-renew function in Your Account. No matter how many warning notifications we give of impending domain renewal dates, sometimes things fall through the cracks and people forget to renew their domains in time. We are human, we get it! Auto-renew is the only sure-fire way to know your domain name will not expire.

How to enable auto-renew

Login to Your Account and navigate to the Domain Names tab and select your domain name(s).

Check to see if you have Domain auto-renew enabled.

If you do, good! If you do not, click on the disabled tab to enable. Now, rest easy knowing your domains will be taken care of with auto-renew!
