Over 17,500 notices of trademark claims notices were sent out just four weeks after the first gTLDs went live. A claims notice is a notification to a trademark holder that someone has registered a domain that is trademarked. These notices were sent out after the customer has already purchased the domain. I believe this process would be a lot more beneficial if they were sent out as pre-registration notices. There have only been 180,000 new gTLDs registered, which is not a high number in comparison to how many claims notices were sent out. I hope all these claims notices do not result in legal turmoil and create a stigma against the new gTLDs. To read further click here.
