The Internet, which has grown significantly over the last decade, has become a powerful economic engine and a huge social force. The internets success although positive for some countries has created a lot of backlash for others. The number of governments that censor the internet has grown significantly since 2002, initially starting at 4 now has grown to 40. It is believed that censoring the internet can cause significant economic and social damages. The United Nations is opening a International Telecommunications Union, where they will be reviewing international agreements and governing of the Internet.
